Diana Brennan Portrait

Diana Brennan

Originally from Australia, Diana Brennan is a textile artist and designer living and working in France.

She uses manual knitting machine techniques and industrial materials in novel ways, taking them out of their original contexts, creating metallic lacework that examines the transition between  discarded felted woollen jumpers and their long billowing metallic skirts. (Robe de Lune series, 2008)

Her Australian origin has made her aware of the play of light and luminosity in which she grew up in, and which still remains present in her daily life.

In her latest work, she has undertaken a series of research samples, which explore the directional effects of lighting and backlighting on grids and networks, knitted with nylon or metallic threads. These investigations led to a collaboration with and production by Studiobrichetziegler, for Designer’s Days in 2012 and Vanessa Mitrani for the 2013 edition.

Large works, installations and small pieces have equally emerged from these researches.

Brennan creates her objects with an artist’s approach and her exploration of materials and techniques shapes her creativity. Her vision and technical skills have given rise to work that is appreciated by collectors and is exhibited internationally and in France, in galleries and museums (Musée Galliera - Paris, Powerhouse Museum – Sydney, Musée des textiles – Lyon)
